Genetics Overhaul: Main Mod 1.4
On September 29th, you'll receive Update 1.5 instead of 1.4.
### Alien Inheritance Fix
I was bothered by the randomness in alien skin colors. While the current blending system works well, it doesn't allow for shades like purple from green and blue. I've developed a new system to address this.
**Blending System:**
- **Aqua Tones:** Can result from green and blue blending or inherit from another aqua tone.
- **Dark Aqua Scheme:**
- **Aqua Scheme:**
- **Aqua-White Scheme:** Can inherit from light blue instead of dark aqua.
You can disable blending entirely with the new "Blend Alien Skin Tones" setting, which is enabled by default.
### Human Form Fix
This update also addresses the issue with human children when one parent is an alien. Previously, the disguise's appearance didn't align with the family's genetics. Skin tone, eye, and hair color were random, making the disguise ineffective.
Now, the mod checks and corrects these attributes when a Sim becomes an infant.
### Half Alien Setting
If you prefer only true aliens or humans, you can disable half-alien children in the settings. The game will ignore the MCCC setting for half-alien babies, but there are no conflicts. This feature is for those who don't use MCCC or prefer simpler occult settings.
### Increased Randomness
Several players noticed that generated children often had similar hair and eye colors. I couldn't replicate this issue, but I've added a technical update to increase randomness. This change shouldn't affect proper inheritance if it's working correctly in your game.
### Minor Age Up Auto Fix
A minor issue where the algorithm sometimes didn't function has been resolved. The update ensures it works consistently.
### Early Access Testing
This update requires an Early Access period for natural testing. It will last only a few days to avoid delaying the public release.
### Randomize Appearance
I've implemented a CAS-like function in live mode, but it's not purely random. My mod applies changes based on genetics from parents and grandparents, considering your mod settings.
**How It Works:**
- Enable testingcheats.
- Shift + click on a Sim with both parents (doesn't work with single-parent genealogy).
- A new menu category will appear.
Be aware that you can't revert to previous stages in live mode, so I recommend saving before using this feature. However, you can edit a Sim in CAS as usual, and you can always make adjustments later.
In rare cases, it appears that Sim's eyes may enlarge, but simply refreshing their appearance in CAS should resolve this issue.
Face, voice, and body randomization are available for teens and adults, as children's genetics are already mapped for their age. This feature also applies to pets. You can change skin tone, eye color, and natural hair color traits from infancy. Sometimes, it may seem like the skin tone hasn't changed, but this is merely a visual glitch. Entering CAS will reveal the alterations.
I developed this function primarily for situations where your Sims or neighbors aged up but ended up with an undesirable appearance. This could be due to bad luck or a game glitch (details in the next section). However, I believe it's more enjoyable and efficient to randomize based on ancestral genetics rather than sculpting the appearance from scratch or rolling the CAS dice.
### Auto Fix on Growing into Teens
You might have noticed a bug where a beautiful child suddenly develops a strange body or face upon reaching teenhood. Partially, this issue is addressed by another mod in this collection, but it can also stem from more serious problems.
Without delving too deeply into coding, all Sims have two types of modifiers: basic and aged-up ones. These modifiers remember inherited data, which is only accessible to adults. When a child ages up, the basic modifiers must match the aged-up ones to maintain genetic coherence.
For some reason, these modifiers may not align, resulting in unusual appearances. This issue can occur even in the vanilla game.
If you have a birth report generated by my mod (located in the /reports folder within this mod's directory), the mod will analyze the new appearance data upon aging up. If any incorrect values are detected, the algorithm will clear them and apply the correct ones from the report.
If you lack a birth report for that Sim, you can randomize their appearance using the new randomization feature. This is the recommended approach, as modifying the appearance in CAS won't reset invalid data, which could be inherited by future generations.
### Warning Messages
If something goes wrong during birth, you'll receive a notification. I also recommend saving the SonozakiSisters_Genetics_Overhaul.log file in a separate location, as it contains debug data that resets with each game launch.
**Genetic Restrictions**
I've added two new traits: "EA Genetics" and "No Occult Mutations." The first ensures that your Sim's children inherit genetics using the EA algorithm, rather than the mod's. The second prevents occult mutations in your Sim's offspring, even if you've adjusted the chances in the settings.
These traits can be added or removed using cheats from the "Genetics Restrictions" subcategory. The "EA Genetics" trait is also available for pets.
Note: This trait appears similar to a fear trait, but it doesn't affect the fear tracker system. I designed it this way to prevent these traits from being inherited, giving you greater control over such aspects.
**New Settings**
**Report Writing**
By default, birth reports are generated for every birth in your save game. This ensures you have data on potentially incorrect births, making it easier for me to debug issues and apply auto-fixes during aging. You can choose to ignore or delete these reports if you prefer.
However, if you're only interested in the player Sims, you can switch the setting to generate reports only for them.
**Absolutely Random Occult Mutations**
In previous versions, occult mutations could only be passed down through generations. For example, if your father was a Vampire and you and your partner were human, your child could still be a Vampire.
With this update, you can now set the chances for any Sim to randomly become an occult, regardless of their genealogy. This is perfect for mythology, fantasy gameplay, or simply adding a touch of chaos and magic to your world.
You can adjust the chances for each occult type separately. By default, mutations are disabled. I haven't removed the previous genealogy-based mutation setting; you can find it in the "Non Occult Mutations" category.
**Fixes**
1. **Hair and Eye Color Bug**: EA fixed the hair and eye color switching bug in patch 1.127. I could no longer reproduce it in the vanilla game or with this mod. However, if you encountered this issue, try switching your Sim's hair and eye color in CAS and then setting them correctly to ensure the game updates the genetics data.
2. **Recreate Offspring Cheat**: Fixed an issue that disabled the "Recreate Offspring" cheat.
3. **Eye Color Reset on Aging Up**: Corrected a bug where eye color reset in some cases during aging up.
4. **NoneType LE on Birth**: Resolved a rare issue where the game didn't pass grandparents' genealogy data, causing a "NoneType LE" error. Now, in such cases, the EA genetics algorithm is applied, and you'll receive a notification.
5. **Werewolf Birth**: Prevented the mod's genetics algorithm from being used if at least one parent transforms into a Werewolf during birth. This prevents missing appearance data.
6. **Minor Algorithm Bugs**: Fixed minor issues with the algorithm.
I've also made significant improvements by refactoring the mod due to its growth and added more debug tools to help with issue investigation. This is a technical update, but I've put a lot of effort into it!
**Installation and Requirements**
Nothing has changed in the installation process. Simply delete the old files (keeping your settings, which will be updated automatically), and ensure the mod is placed no deeper than one subfolder in your Mods folder. For more details, check the instructions [HERE](link).
**FAQ**
- **Randomization Not Available?**
- The Sim has no parents or only one parent.
- The Sim is too young (face, voice, and body randomization are available only for teens and older).
- Skin tone, natural eye, and hair color are available only for human Sims.
- **How to Revert Changes?**
- You can't revert changes unless you saved before using this feature, as described in the post. However, you can edit the Sim in CAS.
- **Skin Tone Hasn't Changed?**
- This is likely a game display bug. Enter CAS to see the changes.
- **A Sim Looks Weird on Aging Up?**
- Refer to the "Auto Fix on Growing into Teens" section for more information.
- **How to Set Non Occult Mutations Chances?**
- Check the FAQ section in the original mod post. The same rules apply here; select the "Non Occult Mutations" category in the settings.
