How not to miss a romantic line with the right companion.

However, it can already save dozens of hours for players who do not immediately realize that they are in the friend zone of one or another satellite. This guide is for the release version of the game, but it is not complete.

What are the Companions?

Some of the below is just a theory, if someone can refute it - write.

AVAILABILITY

Easily accessible:

These are the ones that can be intimate with already at the "party in the camp" (an event that occurs after the resolution of the conflict between the goblins and the grove of druids).

  • Astarion
  • Lae'zel
  • Minthara

Heavy:
These are those with whom the novel in the first act is just beginning and requires development in future ones.

  • Shadowheart
  • Karlach
  • Gale

I don't have any information yet:

  • Wyll (may attend the celebration)
  • Halsin (may attend the celebration)
  • Minsc (not available in the first act)
  • Jaheira (not available in Act 1)

JEALOUSY

In addition, the characters are treated differently with polygamy.

At least in the first act, they will turn a blind eye to your relationship with someone else:

  • Karlach
  • Astarion
  • Minthara

Will remain in romantic status, but may lose it in future acts as they develop relationships with others:

  • Shadowheart
  • Gale

Will reject the player already in the first act if he flirts with others:

  • Lae'zel

I don't have any information yet:

  • Will
  • Halsin
  • Minsc (not available in the first act)
  • Jaheira (not available in Act 1)

The main problems that lead to blocking relationships.

Obvious:

  • Wrong choice of answers in dialogues.
  • Ignoring personal quests.
  • negative relationship level.

This is how it should work, therefore I see no reason to disassemble these reasons.

Not obvious:
A) Random scene bugs.
B) Too many romantic starts with others.
C) Not found quest items.
D) Too high ratios (?!).

And this is the biggest problem with romance in the game. They can easily lead you to the fact that you have to roll back the progress in the game back and sometimes very, very far.

--->

Some examples of "Not Obvious":

  • A) You did everything, but no matter how much you miss the night, the scene with romance does not appear.
It is better to immediately roll back the progress, I do not yet know the solution to this bug as well as its causes.
  • B) You have already seen two romantic scenes with "heavy" characters and don't want to have a third romantic scene also with a "heavy" character.
Update: It looks like the scene with the Shadowheart wine is blocking other relationships most of the time. It should be avoided before the holiday in the camp. Or don't initiate at all if your target is another companion on a serious basis.
  • C) Shadowheart needs a lotus (but, this is not in the first act), Karlach needs infernal iron (already in the first act), etc.
  • D) Perhaps a bug A) is somehow connected with jumping the relationship scale through two categories without spending the night. Sleep more often. By the way, the relationship scale is generally strange, it can disappear if you often change the composition of the group.

The principle of building relationships in the first act.

For "heavy" characters, success is considered if, before the holiday in the grove (according to some reports, it is possible during it) you get one scene with light romance.

For example,

  • for Shadowheart, it's an evening under the stars with wine.
  • for Karlach, it's an attempt at a kiss.
  • for Gale, it's experimenting with weaving.

With "easily accessible" the opposite is true, there will be no romantic scenes before the holiday. But with them it will be possible to sleep on the holiday itself.

For "heavy" characters, it is required that the relationship level be at least good. You have progressed on their personal quest, and also sided with them in dialogue (this is not a strict requirement, but it's too hard to figure out which dialogues are critical and which are not).

"Easy" characters are usually less picky, for example Minthara just wants you to side with the goblins in a conflict. Astarion may not even be allowed to drink blood, just have a normal relationship with him and he already agrees to everything. And Lae'zel will be fine if she is the only one you flirt with and the relationship level is good.

How not to miss a romantic line with the right companion?

Given the information above, you can try to answer the question from the title of the guide. So, if you are only interested in one particular satellite, then you are in luck.

Your task:
1. After landing on the island, take him to the team as soon as possible.
2. Do not complete the personal quests of others until this happens.
3. Sleep as little as possible so as not to provoke random events with other satellites.
4. Reject any attempts at flirting with other companions.
5. After joining the team, immediately start completing the personal quest of the companion chosen for romance and download his approval (you don’t need a high level, but neutral won’t work either).
6. Always carry it with you and check for new dialogues. It is especially important not to skip dialogues when there is an exclamation mark above it.
7. If you need to answer something in the dialogue with the npc that your companion does not approve, then you can temporarily take him 2 screens away from the general group. Relationships should not fall.

By doing this, you will come to the fact that the companion's personal quest is completed to the maximum (as far as possible for the first act). And the level of relations is already at least good. After that, if you have chosen one of the "heavy" companions, then during the night you should catch a romantic scene, after which you can calm down - in the first act you did everything right. All that remains is not to cheat on him / her at a party if they are against polygamy.

If the scene doesn't appear, try skipping a few nights. And check again on the list if you did everything right.

If after that the scene did not appear, then you caught a bug. And you better roll back your progress now, and not when you lose dozens more hours of play and realize that you are already in the friend zone of the satellite. <- This is the key idea of the whole guide, in fact. Just like the fact that if there was no sex during the party at the camp, this does not mean that you screwed up something. For "heavy" satellites, this is the norm. But the lack of romance before the party is not the norm.

What if I'm interested in multiple satellites?

And here is the problem. There is no exact information about the possible endings of the game yet. All I can offer at the moment - choose at least one of the companions in the "not against polygamy" category, and the second one is either the same or the usual one.

Skip the passage of the first act for now and focus on getting the start of a romantic relationship with the companions you are interested in.

For example, Karlach seems to be okay with us flirting with others. You can progress with her to the kiss scene and then tackle Shadowheart.

I know for a fact that it's possible to get dialogue at the start of the romantic scenes with both Gale and Shadowheart in the same playthrough. But, because at least Gale is a supporter of monogamy, probably in future acts he will have to choose.

Perhaps there is some limit on how many satellites such scenes were launched in the first act. But, it includes only "heavy" satellites, "easily accessible" ones do not affect it (but, this is not accurate). In any case, I advise you to start the most interesting to you and go down.

Well, the supporters of polygamy from the "heavy" and "easily accessible" categories are the easiest to combine. For example, Karlach + Astarion will work, but Karlach + Lae'zel won't.

Correct answers in the dialogues?

I don't list specific dialogues. The volume is not small, but everything is obvious there. At the moment in the game, I have not seen moments when it was required to choose some too tricky answers. But, I will give some general recommendations:

Astarion needs protection and doesn't like being judged for being a vampire. He does not have to give blood so that he climbs to you at the holiday. But, perhaps this will somehow have a positive effect in future acts.

Gale needs understanding with his "problem", appreciates sharing his passion for weaving. In short, treat him like a princess, you can't go wrong.

Lae'zel loves respectful communication with her, but not weakness and nurses. Likes only "fresh meat" according to her, which "has not been squeezed." So flirting with others will almost certainly close any opportunities with her. But she will continue to mock and tease.

Karlach must be defended in any controversy with Wyll. She is a kind character. Also, she really misses being touched. It is better to show regret that you cannot touch her and constantly provoke her to try.

Shadowheart doesn't like simps who talk about all the secrets, tk. herself from the domain of deception and serves Shar. It is important to show that you are not against this service of hers. According to information that has not yet been verified, if you persuade her to refuse service, then towards the end of the game the ending will be worse in a romantic way. But, I didn't check it.

Minthara just take her side. Likes to command you.

Wyll will change his appearance after some events. It is important to show that this is not critical for you.

I don't have information:

Halsin
Minsk
Jaheira

Karlach+Shadowheart

I did a series of experiments, my goal was to start a romance with Karlach and Shadowheart at the same time.

To be honest, I almost despaired, because. if I went through the scene with the kiss of Karlach, then there was no random event with Shadowheart that would lead to an evening with wine.

Conversely, if I spent the evening with Shadowheart wine, then Karlach would not come up at night and try to kiss.

However, it is still possible! I can't say exactly what is critical in this path. But, the following procedure worked for me.

First you must start a romance with Karlach. Go through all the possible stages.
The easiest way is to run faster to save her without Wyll in the group (but, he must already be hired and camped!). Doing a sleepover, it triggers the Wyll vs. Karlach. We fully support Karlach. In the morning we go to bring down the paladins. In the same house, we select the coin of the soul and go through the dialogue. Then we take her to the blacksmith in the grove and get information about where you can get hellish iron. We make an upgrade and go to sleep. If everything is done correctly and you did not reduce the relationship with her, then that very night she will approach and the kiss scene will begin. Push the romantic line with her further, it's not difficult.

However, Shadowheart will no longer try to invite you to spend the night with wine, no matter how good the relationship with her is.

However, you take Shadowheart with you and carry it around with you all the time. Download her approval. And go through a series of story scenes about the artifact, etc., they will appear as you progress through the first act. Your task is to raise the relationship as high as possible. And Karlach by that time will no longer give new content and she will have the same dialogues.

Then you need to complete the quest with saving the grove. This time I tried using the method of killing the three goblin leaders, but others may work. The main thing is that you reach the holiday in the camp and you have a high relationship with Shadowheart, and you already have a romance with Karlach.

At the party, you immediately go to Karlach and flirt with her. However, she can't spend the night with you and offers to have fun without her. You go to Shadowheart and answer in dialogue:
For refugees?
You think Shar won't approve?

If she offered to have a drink with her, then you succeeded!
Go to sleep and get a romantic scene with Shadowheart. If you bring her to a kiss, then the romance with Shadowheart has begun.

In total, you are at the beginning of the novel with both Shadowheart and Karlach! I don't know if this polygamy can be maintained until the end of the game, but it's still much more interesting than the harassment of any Astarion or Gale (if you are a straight male character).

Important! On the contrary, it doesn't work. If you first romance Shadowheart, then at the feast Karlach will say that he wants to be a friend and nothing more. It seems that only Shadowheart has the functionality to start a new romance on a holiday. And Gale or Karlach should definitely get their scenes BEFORE the holiday. Moreover, the Gale scene does not block the Karlach or Shadowheart scenes later, but the girls' scenes block each other. And only the fact that Shadowheart has a unique dialogue on the holiday - allows you to get around this.

Jealousy of Lae'zel

BG3 continues to confuse. I thought starting any romance with others would block Lae'zel, but that's not entirely true.

If during the adventure she tells you that she prefers "fresh meat", and you have already been squeezed by everyone and sundry - then yes, you are in her friend zone.

However, if you don't go through the scene with the wine at Shadowheart BEFORE the holiday at the camp and do not go through the dialogue about "fresh meat" (for example, run without Lae'zel). Then you can start romantic lines with other characters, and at the feast Lae'zel will give you two options. Or choose it. Or you can discuss with her that you will spend the night with her sometime next time (she doesn’t give an exact answer, but she doesn’t send it off either).
