The Mod That Adds DLSS 2/3 To Starfield Will Be Paid
A mod for Starfield that adds support for DLSS will be paid to some extent, ie. To download it, you will need to subscribe to the author's Patreon. This was confirmed by modder PureDark, who is not overly concerned about the community's reaction to this decision, and suggested that critics make their own mods if they want to distribute them for free.
In the past few days, PureDark has made it clear that a mod that adds Nvidia's DLSS versions 2 and 3 will be available as soon as Starfield launches. Thus, you can immediately play with improved performance and all the benefits of using this technology.
However, in a post on his Discord channel, PureDark said that the mod would only be available for download to subscribers to his Patreon. He also responded harshly to the criticism via Reddit:
Many will criticize me for not making it free, but I don't care. You can make your own free mod and share it with others, rendering mine useless.
After all, it's his mod, his job, his decision on how to distribute it. But you should not worry, there will always be kind people who will put this modification in the public domain.
PureDark is a very famous modder who has already released mods that add DLSS to Red Dead Redemption 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Last of Us Part 1 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Starfield will be available to everyone from September 6, 2023. It will be playable on PC and Xbox Series X/S, as well as all devices that support Microsoft's Xcloud. The game will also be available from launch on Game Pass, Xbox and PC.
