After a heavy Russian counterattack beginning on 5 December 1941, Model's 9th Army stabilized its positions in western Moscow, although there was still a danger of encirclement. The Russians attacked from all sides that winter, and in 1942. However, the lines of the model were passing, thanks in part to the Kampfgruppe Raus.
