Mage Hand Improved (No Short Rest Required) v2.0
NEW VERSION
The new version of this mod makes the Mage Hand work as close to the D&D 5E Mage Hand as I can get now. Summon 1 Mage Hand at a time, with the original disappearing automatically. Cast as many times as you like! Also works with the Githyanki Racial Mage Hand, which now also works as a cantrip, meaning you can cast it all day long.
There is also a Bonus Action version available under the Optional Files, but don't download more than one file.
I've left the old description below and the old versions of this mod in the Old Files section, but all of those have been updated to include the same changes to the Githyanki Racial Mage Hand Ability.
Huge thanks to Sounz0r for the tip on the Githyanki ability, if not for them this would've taken much much longer.
OLD VERSION
This mod has two options for Mage Hand in order to get around the Once Per Short Rest restriction. The problem was that I couldn't figure out a way to make summoning similar to Divinity Original Sin summoning, in that when you summon another one the first should disappear. So I thought of two ways to get past this in a balanced way.
- Make Mage Hand last 2 rounds, this way you can cast Mage Hand to do something quick and easy and even have 2 of them up at once. You won't be able to flood the battlefield with Mage Hands but still get some utility out of it. The trade off is how quickly it'll disappear.
- Make Mage Hand Concentration, which allows the full 10 rounds and makes it so that the Mage Hand will disappear if you summon another. The trade off is that you won't be able to cast other Concentration spells without losing your Mage Hand and vice versa. This should help during exploration more than late-game combat.
DOWNLOAD
I've updated the mod to include 2 more versions which are identical to the 2 above except that they use a Bonus Action instead of a full Action. I've put those two files under Optional Files as they are a little stronger than I think they should be. Only use 1 file, do not download one of the Main files and an Optional one, only use a Main file OR an Optional file.
I installed this mod using Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Manager: https://github.com/LaughingLeader/BG3ModManager
In order to install this mod using BG3MM: (Must install Full Release Mod Fixer first, following their install instructions)
- Download the mod manually
- Extract the mod to whichever folder you'd like
- Place the .pak file into your BG3 Mods folder, located by typing %appdata% into your search bar then going to /Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate
- 3/ Mods
- Open up BG3MM and if you don't see the mod on the right side under Inactive Mods, hit the refresh button right above it (if it's still not there the .pak file is in the wrong place)
- Drag the mod from the Inactive Mods (right) side to the Active Mods (left) side
- Click File and Export Order to Game (Ctrl + E)
- Play Game
If you need it, there are pictures up top after the mod pictures that show where these things are.
If you're downloading with Vortex Mod Manager, I haven't tested it but I've heard you can click Download With Manager instead of Download Manually and the file should work. I'll try troubleshooting that once the files uploaded.
