Schemes are very often loot and take a slot in inventory. It's oufull, and players keep boxes for this garbage at the base.
You can sell them and get 100 coins or use to get 50 exp. But we all know that It's very low profit for this kind of loot.
Now this garbage became more useable. When you use scheme or book you will get 1000 exp. Press A when you find a book or scheme and you will get a nice bonus. This bonus keep fine for any stage of game!
