Units In Homeworld 3 Strategy Will Talk To Each Other, Not Answerplayer

The developers believe that it is time for the genre to move forward.

Fans of real-time strategy have long been accustomed to the fact that units respond to their commands with some short phrase. However, the creators of Homeworld 3 at Blackbird Interactive believe that the system can be changed to bring the units to life and thereby bring something new to the genre.

If you've played RTS, you're familiar with unit responses like "Zag-zag" after giving an order. Much has changed since those golden days. We could have stayed true to tradition, but we felt it was time for the genre to move forward. To do this, we have created a negotiation system that will bring your fleet to life and create unique moments.

Each ship in Homeworld 3 will have two "voices" The first will be responsible for basic information, and the second - for other, more contextual negotiations. It was important for the developers that the crews of the ships were talking to each other, and not answering the player.

Such a system implies that dialogues between crews occur even when the player is not nearby and cannot hear them. The player may also stumble upon negotiations that began without him.

As an example, the studio showed a video in which the player gave the command to one of the ships to dock with another.

Units will talk to each other even after such simple commands from the player as attacking the enemy.

The negotiation system between units was discussed in the largest developer update so far, which also contains many other details of the upcoming strategy and a teaser of the in-game cinematics.

Homeworld 3 is slated for release in February 2024. The developers promised that they would share other details before the end of the summer.
