What a Horse Needs in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack
Basic information about the essentials and how you can arrange everything for the gameplay.
STALLS IN SIMS 4
The horse's sleeping place is a flat object covered with hay. This will allow you to arrange the stall and the whole room to your liking, leaving more space around or placing walls and fences close to this "bed".
Just like for Sims, you can assign a specific "bed" to a specific horse. Other activities include cleaning, summoning a horse to the place, being able to put away luggage, and even buying a horse.
STABLE, SHED, PAD
There is also full scope for the realization of your ideas. A horse can go through both gates and through doors/arches, and if you make the height of the walls medium or higher, then even a sim on horseback can drive into higher openings.
If you need to restrict where you stay, you can lock the gate to horses only. This option is also available for pygmy goats/sheep.
FOOD FOR HORSES
Horses eat hay. The feeder can be filled for §30, or weeds (Prairie Grass) growing around Chestnut Ridge can be harvested. To replenish the feeder you need 4 pcs. thus harvested hay.
You can also send the horse to graze or look for weeds. It seems that these actions only appeared when the Sim was riding.
And there is also a new test for the plots - Wild Prairie Grass, as I understand it, weeds will grow on the site by themselves. It was just on the lot where the SimGuru played in the stream.
In addition to hay, a horse can be hand-fed apples or other fruits. In the stream, the Sim had a banana and grapes available for feeding.
HORSE CARE
Among the actions for the horse are brushing and cleaning the hooves. We've already seen both in trailers.
Creating a horse in CAS SIMS 4
A horse can be created from scratch directly in CAS. There are over 30 pre-made breeds to choose from, but you also have the tools to customize just like cats and dogs.
You can choose 3 character traits from the 11 presented:
- Aggressive
- Brave
- Defiant
- Energetic
- Fearful
- Free Spirit
- Friendly
- Independent
- Intelligent
- Mellow
- Needy
There are also reward traits, they will be visible in the horse information panel in live mode. On the concept of the interface, two were noticed:
- Playful (playful) - breeding trait
- Champion (champion) - a special feature
On the concept, you can also see the icon of the horse's family tree and its current value.
The same breeds and traits are available to foals. If the foal was born during the game (not created in CAS), then it can receive additional traits during the breeding process.
As with other pets, there are fur color options, color settings, and a paint mode.
Horses can choose two outfits.
Everyday and driving.
For driving, of course, there are options for ammunition.
CAS (for sims)
All new CAS icons in the TS4 Horse Ranch expansion. They are already available for viewing in the EA App, but I have grouped them into categories for more convenience. Total 148 pics.

New location
Chestnut Ridge
3 districts, 13 sites
This community was formed when several groups of people realized their mutual connection with horses and the earth. The area soon became known as the center of equestrianism: a city with a wealth of experience in breeding and training horses, nestled in a beautiful and vast landscape. Over time, this area became known for another occupation: thanks to the rich soil, a new enterprise appeared here - the production of nectar. Thanks to the hard work of all involved, the region prospered and grew into what is now Chestnut Ridge.
New Appaloosa Horse
The New Appaloosa Historic District is a hub for equestrians, ranchers, and nectar growers. Whether it's a competition at the Hay Now Equestrian Center! An equestrian center, a dance hall or a nectar with friends - there is a place for everyone in this old establishment.

GAMEPLAY WITH HORSE
Hovering over a horse will display information about needs, current emotion, relationship level, age, and gender. Well, the name, of course.
Hand feeding. Sims must have fruits in their inventory.
Sim George has no riding skill, Sim JoAnna has it well pumped.
Here you can see how the horse changes clothes.
And immediately the horse threw off the rider George. Got it on the third try.
After that, you need to click on the ground to go where you want. There are options for normal riding, trotting and galloping.
While riding, the skill pumps not only the sim, but also the horse. The Sim has riding, the horse has stamina.
The Sim may also like or dislike horseback riding.
Each district has a booth where you can find out more information, buy a horse, dwarf sheep and goats, train a horse, enter a competition, hire a worker, schedule an event, and more.
Here is a good example of how a horse eats itself and how a Sim collects grass.
To fill the feeder you must have 4 bundles of hay, but you can also do it just for money.
The stall can be created any to your taste. The "bed" itself is a flat object that can be placed both in a spacious room and in a small one.
Here you can clean up, and you can also assign a "bed" to a specific horse, just like Sims' beds.
Barrel training. Now the horse has another skill - agility.
A worker can help with the housework. It can be hired over the phone or from information stands in the districts. Will work daily from 7 to 7.
Manure can be removed or put in luggage (to be used as fertilizer). There are also boxes where you can put manure or whatever you want.
The better the care of the horse, the better the quality of the manure.
There is manure in a bag in the luggage.
Children can also ride.
NEW RECIPES
There will be a new grill, as well as bonus items for purchasing the add-on before August 31, 2023.
New dishes available on the grill:
- Wild Nut Soup
- Bison Stew
- Pan De Campo
Three Sisters Chilli - corn, beans, squash
This dish will come into the base game as a traditional Native American culture recipe.
Activities
Ranch Gathering

Say hello to family and friends with a gathering at the ranch! Pull the barrel, there's ranch music, cow dancing, grilling, nectar and everything a sim could want for a friendly chat! Spend an unforgettable day at the ranch!
Ranch Animal Day
Participation Rewards: Guests are willing and eager to donate Simoleons to the ranch. How many? Well, it depends on how successful the event is.
Horses, mini sheep and mini goats, oh my! Caring for and playing with these animals can be just another day at the ranch for some, but for friends and community members it can be a fun activity! Come together and celebrate what these ranch animals bring to the world!
DANCING
Cowpoke Dance (cowboy dance)
We've already seen it in the trailers, but here's what it looks like in the game.
Dwarf Goats And Sheep
Can be purchased over the phone, from information booths in neighborhoods, and from a store in downtown New Appaloosa.
In the same menu, the purchase and sale of horses is available.
All purchased babies will be in the luggage. From there they can be moved to the world.
When you hover, there is also information about the state of the pet.
Among the activities there are communication, care and others. Goats can be milked and sheep sheared to earn Simoleons. If you have the Country Life add-on, it will be like a product (milk and wool, respectively) and affects the recipe system.
NECTAR PRODUCTION
The nectar machine costs §350 and takes up 2x2 spaces if you are already preparing a space for it.
There are 10 types of nectar in total, the names of nine were visible in the stream:
Apple Nectar
Grape Nectar
Strawberry Nectar
Potato Nectar
Prairie Grass Nectar
Trash Nectar
Energy Nectar
Fruit Nectar
Berry Nectar
And if you have the game sets "Vampires", "World of Magic" and "Werewolves", then each of them will have special nectars for the corresponding occults
The created nectar will be displayed in the notebook, and the completed bottle will be in the Sim's inventory.
The older the nectar, the more expensive it will cost.
For storage, you can also use a special shelf.
Costs 300 §, size 0.5x0.5 cells, modular.
Each holds 13 bottles. There are various actions, including the ability to pick up all the bottles, only aged, only not aged, place all bottles from luggage, place only unaged ones. And you can give a name to each shelf.
You can give your name to the nectar, you can drink directly from the bottle, you can pour into glasses from 1 to 4 servings.
BUY/BUILD MODE
Buy-build mode in the TS4 Horse Ranch add-on. All icons are already available for viewing in the EA App, but I have grouped them roughly into categories for more convenience. Total 199 pcs.
A couple of color collages. I really like the wall panel, I think you can pave the entire wall or make an imitation of kitchen tiles by reducing the object.
Doors. A horse can pass through any of them, so you can freely use them to create various stable options.
